Probabilistic tsunami hazard analysis for western Makran coasts, south-east Iran

چکیده

Makran subduction zone, along the southern coasts of Iran and Pakistan, has a wide potential seismogenic zone may be capable generating large magnitude (M ~ 9) tsunamigenic earthquakes. Considering ambiguities exist in source characterization for megathrusts like Makran, where detailed geologic, seismic, geodetic data are insufficient, probabilistic tsunami hazard analysis (PTHA) is most prevalent approach to handle uncertainties estimate more reliable hazard. Here, PTHA performed coastal region western south-eastern Iran. Using logic tree approach, we have considered uncertainty maximum seismic magnitude, earthquake occurrence model, continuity coupling coefficient, rupture depth, presence or absence splay faults, fault locations, slip distribution calculation region. We derived uniform maps two return periods 475 2475 years confidence levels, mean 84th percentile. Ground subsidence effects also evaluated manner. According results, Chabahar Sirik towns at highest lowest risk, respectively.

Statistical Analysis of Earthquakes and Tsunami of Makran Subduction Zone (MSZ), and Tsunami Hazard Assessment of Gwadar Coast

Tsunami waves are the most underrated hazard affecting the life near coastal belts. With socio-economic developments in coastal region results in more hazardous from tsunami. The hazard assessment of tsunami is highly vital. The Makran region is exceptional in closure zone of Tethys; it is only segment east of the Mediterranean and west of Andaman arc in which subduction of oceanic lithosphere ...

Tsunami generation in Stromboli island and impact on the south-east Tyrrhenian coasts

Stromboli is one of the most active volcanoes in the Aeolian island arc in south Tyrrhenian sea, Italy. In the last 100 years the most relevant volcanic eruptions have been accompanied by local tsunamis, that have caused damage and casualties. In some cases the direct mechanism of local tsunami generation is clear, i.e. pyroclastic flows entering the sea. In some others it is uncertain and some...

Asteroid Impact Tsunami: A Probabilistic Hazard Assessment

We investigate the generation, propagation, and probabilistic hazard of tsunami spawned by oceanic asteroid impacts. The process first links the depth and diameter of parabolic impact cavities to asteroid density, radius, and impact velocity by means of elementary energy arguments and crater scaling rules. Then, linear tsunami theory illustrates how these transient cavities evolve into vertical...

Earthquake related tsunami hazard along the western coast of Thailand

The primary background for the present study was a project to assist the authorities in Thailand with development of plans for how to deal with the future tsunami risk in both short and long term perspectives, in the wake of the devastating 26 December 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake and tsunami. The study is focussed on defining and analyzing a number of possible future earthquake scenarios (m...

Three Dimensional Numerical Simulation of Tsunami Generation and Propagation Due to Makran Subduction and run-up on Chabahar Bay and Makran Coasts

Makran subduction located at the northwest of the Indian Ocean nearby the southern coast of Iran and Pakistan. Makran subduction is the source of tsunamis that threaten southern coast of Iran. In this article, generation and propagation of 1945’s tsunami initiated by Makran subduction is simulated. For the three dimensional generation of the wave, advanced algorithm of Okada is adopted. The CFD...
